Vitamin E Said to Cut Bladder Cancer Risk
Mon Mar 29, 7:17 AM ET

By DANIEL Q. HANEY, AP Medical Editor

ORLANDO, Fla. - Scientists in search of cancer-preventing nutrients have found clues that vitamin E may protect against bladder cancer.

Source: Yahoo! Health

Their study, released Sunday, found that people who get lots of this vitamin in their food have only about half as much bladder cancer as those who take in relatively little. While intriguing, though, researchers say much more research is needed before they can recommend more than eating plenty of vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables.

Experts once had high hopes that vitamin E would prove to be an important safeguard against heart attacks. But that idea eventually faded as repeated studies failed to show any protective effect.

Injuries may not mean abuse
Scientists have cast doubt on the theory that certain eye injuries are a sign a baby has been violently shaken.

Experts believe that bleeding behind the eyes probably indicates that an infant has been physically abused.

However, a team from the US's Wake Forest University says there is little hard science to support the view that this alone proves abuse.

Writing in the BMJ, members say assumptions about shaken baby syndrome need to be challenged.

High doses of vitamins can treat genetic diseases - study
Source: NUTRA ingredients

- 08/04/2002  - More than 50 genetic disorders can be successfully treated with high doses of vitamins, according to a recent article by a professor at UC Berkley in the US.

Writing in the April issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Bruce N. Ames said that he had discovered a common thread in the effectiveness of so-called megavitamin therapies which suggested that there may be many more diseases treatable with high-dose vitamins, in particular the eight B vitamins like niacin, thiamine and pyridoxine.

Seeds of Distraction
The biotech companies want us to consider everything except their motives

By George Monbiot. Published in the Guardian 9th March 2004
[ genetic engineering / Seeds of Distraction ]

The question is as simple as this: do you want a few corporations to monopolise the global food supply? If the answer is yes, you should welcome the announcement the government is expected to make today, that the commercial planting of a GM crop in Britain can go ahead. If the answer is no, you should regret it. The principal promotional effort of the genetic engineering industry is to distract us from this question.

The launch of a high-yielding dwarf rice variety by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) on Nov 28, 1966 marked the beginning of Asia's struggle for freedom from hunger. Perhaps drawn by the promise of the 'miracle rice' the IR8 rice variety -- the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) dedicated 1966 as the International Rice Year.

FDA finally concedes antidepressant suicide risk after 13-year fight for warning
Source: eMediaWire
“We are pleased the FDA is finally requiring the manufacturers of these drugs to include warnings about the suicide risk, however, it should not have taken over a decade to do so. Victims, experts and consumer advocates have been fighting for these warnings for many years."

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 25, 2004 -- Today, the FDA asked manufacturers of several antidepressants (Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, Effexor, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, Serzone, and Remeron) to include in their Warning Labels that patients (both adults and children) should be closely monitored for the emergence of suicidality. 2003 Flu Season Extremely Profitable

|

The flu season of 2003 saw the introduction of a new type of vaccine - Flu Mist - which came with a hefty price tag. Early in the season, US health officials said that "this could be an especially bad flu season nationwide", in effect promoting vaccines to a much wider public than in previous years, despite the fact that the effectiveness of flu vaccines for preventing the flu had not been demonstrated.

The stage is set for future years - with officials of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices already calling for Flu Vaccines For All Americans by 2006.

Tara Servatius of Creative Loafing-Charlotte News has pulled a lot of the facts together and explains the economic interests and the government/vaccine industry collusion in what was a great year for profits from vaccination. Her article follows here.

10 Important Facts About Vitamin K That You Need to Know

By Dr. Joseph Mercola
     with Rachael Droege

Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that is most well-known for the important role it plays in blood clotting. However, vitamin K is also absolutely essential to build strong bones and prevent heart disease, and it plays a crucial role in other bodily functions other than blood clotting. It is so important that, although I don’t typically recommend adding extra supplements to your diet, vitamin K is one of the few supplements you should seriously consider because many people do not get nearly enough of it on a daily basis through the foods they eat.

In fact, vitamin K is sometimes referred to as “the forgotten vitamin” because its major benefits are often overlooked. Following are 10 important facts about vitamin K that will help you to discover why vitamin K is one supplement you may need.
